Calcium Hypochlorite (Sodium Process) 65% Granular
Chemical appearance:
The calcium-based salt appears as while or light gray granules. It is also manufactured in 20g and 200g table. It does not have and disincentive smell. It is soluble in water in which it decomposes. This characteristic is used in various processes as explained below.
Chemical application and strengths:
The main application of calcium hypochlorite is the disinfection of water. It is widely used in two main ways; to disinfect swimming pool and disinfect drinking water. This compound has little residue as it is highly soluble in water. When used to disinfect the swimming pool water, it is usually mixed with other chemicals that have low chlorine content to prevent reaction with choline. It is a highly effective in helping get chemical compounds and pungent smell in swimming pools due its high chlorine content.
It is also a safe disinfectant for use in cleaning livestock pen especially after an animal has died of a highly infectious viral disease. Farmers also use it to disinfect aquariums especially where chemical-ridden or very dirty water may have seeped into the aquarium. In case of a leakage of a highly poisonous chemicals or radioactive materials, calcium hypochlorite helps to neutralize the substances for the safety of people and animals in the area.
As stated in other trading names, sodium hypochlorite is a strong bleaching agent. When mixed with water, it forms an unstable solution where it combines with the molecules of the material that it strips from fabric wood, fiber or silk to form a stable solution. In the process, it bleaches the materials in question. In the normal temperature, it does not liberate any chlorine gas therefore ideal for long storage.
